If Iron Resin is received and its brown already, has it gone bad?

A:
No. The manufacturer uses multiple colors when making the resin. We normally receive the blue/green mix, but sometimes it will come in blue/brown mix, or a yellow/green mix. You will know it is time to change the resin when it is completely amber colored (very light-light brown).

Should all the granules in the RES1 be blue?

A:
No. there should be a pretty even balance of blue and amber colored resin. As it is a mixture of cation resin (amber colored strong acid) which doesn’t change its color at its exhaustion and anion resin (Blue colored strong base) which changes its color from deep blue to amber as the resin exhausts. Both resins are required, and only one is blue.

A:
Iron resin will last longer if used with distilled water. Also, keep away from direct sunlight. One of the reasons our resin is packaged in a padded envelope is to block exposure from the sun during storage.

A:
There is no set time as to how long the iron resin should last. Longevity depends on how often the water is changed or added to the bottle and how hard the water is that is added to the bottle.

A:
As the resin is used up, it will start to change colors. The change in color is very noticeable. When all the resin turns that used tan color, it is time for it to be changed.

Does iron resin need to be used with steam electric gravity fed irons?

A:
Yes, in order to prolong the life of the iron and to get the best results when ironing, it is best to use the iron resin. The iron resin filters water and removes mineral deposits from the water before it collects and hardens inside the iron. Using distilled water provides some protection, but using iron resin is better.
