A:
Buttons breaking while pressing are normally caused severely compressed steel base pads. To decrease button breakage, increase the longevity of your pads and covers and reduce touch up time, consider ordering new steel.

Why would I get wrinkles on the backs and on the bottoms of a shirt if I change the air bag and flannel each time?

Need to decrease the pressure and change the steel. If the steel is too compressed, you will always get the same wrinkles.

Do you have any special instructions for installing Shirt Unit Steel Base Pads?

A:
The manufacturer suggests that operator run the unit about 20 times before putting any covers or pads on. This will ensure that the steel conforms to the shape of the heads. Also make sure that the steel “strings” are tied down correctly and tightly. The steel must remain stationary- and shouldn’t move even 1 centimeter- in order for the product to work properly. If this step is ignored, the heads of the machines will not close properly-, which will cause pinching, and a terrible press.

A:
It contains two layers of crimped steel and aluminum. Unlike other brands that are made of steel wool, this will not breakdown and turn the pads black, thus staining the garments.

How do I know when to change the steel pads on my shirt units?

A:
The steel pads on a shirt unit last for approximately 160,000 presses for vacuum cabinets and about 180,000-225,000 presses for other non-vacuum cabinet units. The other indicators that a steel unit should be changed is when the presser starts to notice a lot of buttons breaking, more wrinkles around the pocket, sides and shoulder areas, and increased touch up time on shirts. Another good indicator is when the covers and padding seem to need to be changed more often, or if the presser is using thicker flannel than with the manufacturer recommends.
