How does the ball check valve work?

A:
A ball check valve is a check valve in which the disc (the movable part to block the flow) is a spherical ball. In many ball check valves, the ball is spring-loaded to stay shut, but also many do not have a spring inside. For those deigns without a spring, reverse flow is required to move the ball toward the seat and create a seal. In our application, if the glass tube should break than the pressure is reduced and the ball will drop to seal off the flow of water.

Referring to valves, what does WOG and WSP mean?

A:
Some Valves carry two ratings: WOG and WSP. WOG stands for the water, oil, and gas rating for the valve and reflects the maximum pressure capability of the valve at 100 F. WSP stands for working steam pressure and reflects the maximum steam pressure rating for the valve at the highest temperature rating. The WOG rating is always higher than the WSP rating for a valve or fitting. Some valves are only carry WSP ratings as they would only be used with steam.

Why do some valves come with a WSP and WOG rating, and others just talk about the psi ranges?

A:
Some valves can be used on water, oil, and air (WOG) as well as steam. Steam is a more abrasive substance, so the WSP (working steam pressure) rating tends to be lower than the WOG rating. Some items, just as steam traps and steam pressure reducing valves are only used in conjunction with steam, so psi ranges are associated with these items.
