Maxi-Lock stretch thread is great for swimwear, lingerie, fitness clothes or stretchy garments. It is made of textured nylon that is soft like yarn. Use on fabrics that require stretch, strength and softness. It creates a smooth, flat seam that moves with the fabric. Tex 30 with 2,000 yards per spool. Available in a variety of colors. It is similar, but the Woolley nylon is a bit fuzzier, and stretcher.

Can this thread be used in a sewing machine and if so is there any special rules one needs to follow i.e. stitch length, needle size?

Yes, this thread can be used on sewing machines. It's mainly used in the bobbin for regular machines and in the lower looper for serger machines. The size needle would be a standard size 12. Stitch length and tensions may need to be adjusted, but you will have to do some trail and error to get it right.

Does the "pearl" color become almost opaque when it is part of a serged stitch? Looking for a color that will blend into fabric colors when I don't have a matching color for serger loopers.

No, I'm afraid this thread is not opaque. The Gutermann Skala thread tends to blend into the fabric color it is stitched into, however, that thread is much thinner (tex 8 or tex 15).
