When preserving wedding gowns in archival quality boxes, should the boxes be sealed with a plastic bag?

Most people agree textiles should not be stored in plastic bags. Plastic will hold in moisture that the garment contains, which increases the risk of damage caused by mildew. The garment should be kept so that the material can “breath”. Ideally, it should not be kept in a damp or overly dry place. Plastic bags as they start to breakdown may also give off a gas, which could cause further harm to the material. Plastic bags, however, would be beneficial in offering some protection from outdoor elements, before the box reaches its final destination
