How would a check valve, which is not operating properly, effect a steam trap?
Because a check valve works with a steam trap, a check valve not working properly will have an adverse effect on the steam trap.
If a check valve is stuck in a closed position:
1. The condensate that should be flowing from the trap will back up into the trap into the piece of equipment that the condensate is supposed to be collected from.
If a check valve is stuck in an open position:
1. The trap may seem to not work as efficiently as before. The trap wouldn’t be discharging as much condensate as it once was. The check valve is supposed to contain the backpressure in the line, so if it is stuck open, the condensate from the trap will not be emptying as efficiently into the return line.
