Here's a simple and easy way to help detect counterfeit bills.

Don't get stung accepting counterfeit U.S. paper currency. Just make a small mark on a bill. If the ink is light or amber in color, the bill is good. If the ink is dark, the bill is suspect. It is packaged in a gold vinyl sleeve. Does not work on Canadian currency. 5-1/4" long.

No, Canadian Currency tends to be more inconsistent with the fiber and materials used to create it. The makers of this pen were unable to create a formula that would work with Canadian currency.
