A:
Per the manufacturer, this is a “poly-vinyl-acetate.” After being applied and while it is still wet, it hasn’t cured and can be easily rinsed out. However, once it has dried, especially with heat, it is semi-permanent to permanent. Dry Cleaning can soften it up a little bit, however the more effective method would be to use Amyl Acetate. This substance, however, can harm some garment, so it’s not recommended.

How do I get starch OUT of my shirts?

A:
Most starch is made out of organic materials and can be laundered out of the fabric. Artificial sizing, however, will settle in material fibers and will not come out. The more you add, the stiffer the material gets.

Is there a way to take the Spray Starch Sizing out of Ironing Board Covers?

A:
You could try washing the cover every 2-3 days and ten using a fabric softener to get the sizing out. However, if you’ve waited too long to clean it and the sizing is baked in, it most likely will not come out. With all the extra work, it may be better to purchase a new cover.

What is the difference between natural sizings vs. an artificial sizing?

A:
Natural sizing is made from corn, rice, or wheat. It washes out with each washing. It’s organic so it works well on cottons and linens- but it will not work on synthetic materials. Natural sizings also have a tendency of turning yellow as it ages. Artificial sizing dries clear, the sizing is retained in the clothing- so it doesn’t come out very easily with each wash. It works well on natural as well as synthetic materials. If too much artificial starch is applied to a garment, the garment should be rewashed, and not heated- as the heat will set the sizing.

Can the Spray Starch Sizing be diluted to make it even lighter?

A:
Our Spray Starch Sizing (SIZ1) was formulated to work well inside a spray bottle. Most people will apply according to their taste. If a stiffer garment is required, more of the SIZ1 is applied, if a less stiff garment is needed, less SIZ1 is applied. However, the SIZ1 can be diluted even further if the user feels this is necessary, by using regular tap water. For best results add ¼ part water to ¾ part SIZ1. If the sizing is still not light enough, try increasing the water in 1-ounce increments.

A:
The spray starch/sizing can be used on laundered as well as dry cleanable goods. It’s very simple to use because it is applied at full strength. To use: A. Shake well, or turn upside down until the liquid is completely white. B. Use at full strength, straight from the container. Pour the starch/sizing in a spray bottle that provides a fine mist. C. For dry cleanable items: Place garment on a form finisher or pant topper and mist lightly. For laundry: Mist lightly and finish garment as usual.
