How often do I need to change the filter on your perc detector?

A:
The answer to filter life is very subjective because it depends on how dirty of an environment the user is operating in. We recommend that operators visually inspect the tips and use their better judgment when to replace. Not replacing the filter will not harm the unit but it may reduce sensitivity.

How long can I expect the sensor to last in your perc detector?

A:
The sensors have a stated life of 100 operating hours. Because our customers use the detector for a special application it will likely get two to three times that life. The reason is because Perc is a chlorine-based gas and testing with any chlorine-based gases the manufacturer was able to obtain well over 250 hours of life on the sensor. The sensor life is greatly reduced when detecting fluorine-based gases. We do carry the replacement sensors.

Why did my perc detector take almost 15 minutes to start working. Is that normal?

A:
That would not be a normal warm-up time but it does happen occasionally. This occurrence is called “burning in” the sensor. Generally if it takes more than 1 minute to warm-up it is either the first time the unit has been turned on or it was left in an area with considerable moisture. The reason this happens is because the sensor is hydroscopic or wants water. The sensor is trying to burn out this moisture as it reaches its’ ready state (900 deg. F).

Why does my Perc Detector not work?

A:
The most common reason a perc detector is not working when first put into use is because the sensor was not installed. The sensor is packaged separately in the case with the PD1 and the instructions note the sensor must be installed before using.

Why would my Perc Detector make a constant high pitched noise?

A:
This occurrence is called “burning in” and usually happens when the unit has not been used for a period of time, or when installing a new sensor. This process can take up to 20 minutes. If it continues to emit this noise for longer than 20 minutes the unit maybe defective.

What do I need to do with the “Perc” detector if a “siren” sound is detected before a leak is pinpointed?
Anonymous

A:
If the siren goes off- reset the unit. Resetting the unit gives the “Perc detector” a zero start reference. To rest the unit, take it out into some fresh air. Turn it off and then turn it back on. Please note: that the siren may alarm if the tip of the unit comes into contact with moisture or solvents. If this happens clean or replace the tip. Also note, the unit may also go off if a new battery is needed. Check the light on the unit- if the light is weak or blinking- it’s time for a new battery.

The perc detector we carry detects other chemicals as well as perchloroethylene or “perc”. It detects refrigerant gas leaks in Air Conditioning and/or Refrigeration systems. These include CFC’s, HCFC’s, and HFC’s. It detects Ethylene Oxide gas leaks, SF-6 found in high voltage circuit breakers, Halon gases which are in fire extinguishing systems, and most other gases that contain Chlorine, Fluorine, and Bromine.

Why does the Perc Detector beep continually?
Anonymous
Posting As
Please Note: Your answer will be displayed upon approval.
A:
The Perc Detector that we carry will start to beep continually when it is turned on. This does not mean there is a leak. If the chemical leak is detected the beep changes to a “siren” sound.
